June 2001 Update:

Here's a little treat for you! Check out these songs I created using Sonic Foundry's ACID XPress and real human aperture sounds. Since they are MSADPCM-encoded wave files, it is a good test to see if you can play MSADPCM-encoded sounds (all of the sounds in the Flatulator are MSADPCM encoded). Click below to download/listen:

March 2001 Update:

Holy crap! The Flatulator Version 3 has been released! And just in time for April Fool's Day! Upgrade your copy today - I think you will find it much easier to use and more sinister!

The Flatulator v3.0 will now UN-mute and maximize the volume when it fires. It includes twice as many gross sounds (including a "Sick!" category), all new. This new version also fixes the "non-opening cd tray" problem, and makes it easier to set options and shut it down. Go to the Downloads page to get your copy and start Flatulating your friends!

The sounds are compressed with the MSADPCM codec to keep file size under 1 disk (1.44M). If you have a problem with MSADPCM please let me know why and what format might be better. So far, though, it seems to be the most widely accepted WAV compression method for Windows computers. I have yet to run into a machine that couldn't play MSADPCM WAVs if they could play WAVs at all.

The reason for the delay is I've been totally wrapped up in another endeavor - one that will hopefully make me some money. Visit Silverband Software if you want to check it out (FYI - the guy pictured is not me).

What is the Flatulator?

A great gag to play on co-workers at the office! At random intervals (from a few minutes to a full day) the victim's CD-ROM tray will open, the computer will make a rude noise, and the tray will close again. You can also use it on your own computer -- its great for breaking up the monotony of the day.

You can set all options using the user-friendly Options Window or on-the-fly with command-line switches. You can instruct the Flatulator to fire once then exit so it doesn't show up on the task list after the victim has been "Flatulated". But the dirtiest feature is the /run switch. With it you can tell the Flatulator to run another program. Imagine changing the target of a program's shortcut to:

"c:\path\flatulator.exe" /run="c:\some path\program.exe"

Now every time the victim starts the program, they are arming the Flatulator without even knowing it!

*Requires the Visual Basic 6 runtimes*

System Requirements:

Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4.0, or 2000
Visual Basic 6 runtimes
A Soundcard + speakers

Breakdown of sounds included:

  • 20 farts
  • 10 belches
  • 10 Sick!

You can hear all of these sounds on our Samples page.

Sneaky Tip:

You can rename the executable to something less obvious to make it harder to detect. The victim may look for the file "Flatulator.exe", but its unlikely they would find "FRTONU.EXE"...

Freeware - Distribute to anyone you like (or don't like!). Do whatever you want with the program. It's completely safe, but once it's in your hands, I take no responsibility for what you do with it or what it does to your machine.
